Expanding Access

Pharmacists as Addiction Treatment Resources

Wisconsin’s rural areas lack access to formal addiction treatment facilities. John Lemke (PharmD ’15) and Jeff Kirchner (BS ’88) created a medication-assisted therapy program at Streu’s Pharmacy Bay Natural in Green Bay, Wisconsin, to help patients with opioid and alcohol misuse disorders and developed a partnership to help recently released inmates continue treatment.

Education Innovations

New Guiding Vision

The School of Pharmacy enacts a new strategic plan to empower the pioneering minds at the heart of health care, centered on three overarching goals: innovate, cultivate, and educate.

Simulating Future Practice

Two AACP-funded simulations, led by Associate Professor Andrea Porter (PharmD ’06) and Associate Professor Casey Gallimore (PharmD ’05, MS ’13), teach future pharmacists how to successfully work on a care team — even from miles away.

Carb-Cancer Link

Ovarian cancer is notoriously difficult to treat, and researchers believe that's because it can essentially hide from the immune system. Professor Weiping Tang is exploring how to use carbs to uncloak those cancerous cells.
